It was a surprise to me when I saw the commercial on TV around the holidays. My first thought was, “Great! Another reason for people NOT to hire me to design their website.”
I’m over it.
However, I did check them out and decided I should at least report my findings, since I know many of you out there will probably want to go this route, at least for a while.
What is Intuit Websites? It’s a service that lets you modify a template from a library to fit your business. You get a pretty good deal. For only $4.99/month after a 30-day trial, you can be up and running on the World Wide Web in a short amount of time.
“But wait, Ana Maria, why would you write a favorable review of a competitor’s web design services?!!!” you say. Not so fast. Their templates are basic at best. If this is your first website, you wouldn’t even notice the simple technology driving them, and you probably would like their color-coordinated aesthetic appeal. Not bad for a beginner website, but not impressive enough to make this the final choice for your business’s web presence.
It would take me anywhere from 2-5 hours to make one of these. Not very long if you consider the investment you’re about to make by putting your business out there for the whole world to see.
To their credit, these templates are fully customizable, so you could still hire a designer to fix one up to reflect higher design/marketing standards.
All in all, not a bad deal when you consider that hosting services, a domain name and analytics tools are included.
